Another year has come and go
Yes, year 2014 is ending soon. 1 days after my birthday, which is today.
I have not been blogging this year. Many things have happened in Year 2014, but I did not make an effort to update this blog. Have been busy and tired to update this blog.
Finally, all phases of my project has completed in August this year with all the bugs still to be fixed. Yes, everyone wanted to go live, and is not willingly to wait for all bugs to be cleared before launch. Go live first, clear the shit later. This is the new management style, which I will rant about it maybe next year.
The God of Health had not visited my family this year. First, it was I who contacted hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) and got really sick (and it happens in the midst of project going live, GREAT!!!). Then my mother contacted colon cancer and had 1/3 of her large intestines removed. Recently, my youngest aunt contacted bile duct cancer and it has spread to her liver. She has to undergo chemotherapy as surgery will not help because it is diagnosed as stage 4. We are praying hard for her, hoping she can recover.
The God of Wealth had not visited us. I did not win any TOTO, 4D or become a millionaire. So I have to slog hard throughout the year. Well, I told you the new management style, so now I am clearing the shit. I need to spend money for 2 years to employ a maid to take care of my mother, cook proper meals to boost her nutrition. I paid twice the agent fees because I replaced the 1st maid, who is problematic. I see my money flying away. The fridge has been leaking water, the TV needs a few slaps before it can wake up. So I have to start looking at buying these items and spend $$$. More $$$ flying away.
Luckily, the God of Happiness has given us a visit. My mother is recovering, even though it is a bit slow. I have a wonderful nephew who keeps us smiling and laughing every Sunday, even though he has now become a naughty boy and a terror.
God of Luck had popped by twice. By stroke of luck, my mother suddenly wanted to go to hospital, and this resulted in detecting her colon cancer and cure it. We managed to get a replacement maid who is still quite ok and able to speak Mandarin, after the 1st one made my blood boil.
I did not travel this year because the health of family is not good, and it is better to be around to take care of my parents. At least until my mother is in better shape. Next year, hopefully I can travel or at least a short weekend break. Also, there are too many air disasters this year and I have no mood to travel.
Well, my birthday is ending soon. My birthday wishes:
1. Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) will visit my house very often next year and bring God of Health, God of Wealth, God of Happiness and God of Luck along with her.
2. The God of Health will visit my aunt every day until she recovers.

My mother is not in good health but recovering
This time it is not me.
It is my mother who is sick. She has been frail for many years. We had thought that it was because of Parkinson which she is suffering from. This was what the doctor told us, and that other than being giddy and sleepy, she was not ill. I had initially thought that she was lazy because she did not want to exercise, I know I am bad.
Whenever, she says she is not feeling well to exercise, I would tell her to see doctor, but she wouldn't want to. However, one Sunday, 3 August, she suddenly insisted that she wanted to go to the hospital. We brought her to A&E, the doctors there also thought that she is just feeling giddy due to Parkinson and let her lie around in the A&E. Later, they decided to admit her as a neuro patient for observation.
Things did not get better after a few days. She had no appetite and blood pressure was very low. After the hospital did many blood tests, they found that her red blood count was way below the normal. This occur for many reasons according to the doctors, malnutrition is one of them, another is internal bleeding.
The doctors did a CT scan on her and found a lump in her intestines. They suspected the growth in the intestines is bleeding and maybe cancer growth. A colonscopy was done and biopsy confirmed that it is a cancer growth and they had to remove 1/3 of her large intestines. This was a major surgery.
We were worried that mother could not take the stress of the surgery. However, the doctors had assured us that medically she is healthy and well even though she looks weak. Her protein level was good (needed for wound recovery), and her heart was good. Which are good news to us. Mother made the decision to go ahead with the surgery. After the surgery, there are times her mind was not in the clear state and she started to babble rubbish and got us worried. She gradually recover after they put her of morphine. After about 10 days of monitoring, she was discharged and we sent her to St Luke Community Hospital for rehabilitation. The doctors also confirmed that the cancer cells did not reach the lymph nodes and there is no spreading, which means she would not need to go through chemo or radiography.
Now she is on the road to recovery. Nurses and therapists at St Luke says she is eating well, in fact she ate quite a lot, and willing to exercise. She still need a lot of nutrition and they put her on Resource 2.0 in addition to her normal meals.
However, because of her Parkinson, she will need a caretaker to look after her to prevent her from choking and falling down. We also have to provide good food for her so that she has enough nutrition. My father is old and his cooking .... haiz (a big sign). We decided to employ a maid to take care of her and cook, at the same time renovate the house so that it is easier for her to walk.
For the past few weeks, we had been busy sourcing for a maid. Now that the maid will be arriving next week, I would need to tidy up my house and lock up all expensive belongings. After that, I will need to source for a renovation contractor.
Busy days ahead.... But as long as mother recovers, we will never mind the busy days.

I am sick again
This year is an auspicious year for Ox, many feng shui masters said that during the new year. But I don't think it is for me.
It has not been a good start for the new year and I still did not take good care of my health. I am sick again, this time is HFMD, hand-foot-mouth disease.
Nah, this is the condition of my hand and foot.
Scary ... my body is supposed to recover from this automatically, but it did not. Yesterday, I went to the hospital for followup, it seems my medication to suppress my immune system was the cause (I am a lupus patient). The doctor stop the medication temporary to allow HFMD to recover, before resuming the dosage. I will need longer time to recover from HFMD. In the meantime, I need to quarantine myself, don't go out and spread the virus. It is nice that the doctor gave me 13 days medical leave to rest and recover. I really need the rest.
I must really take care of my health.

Not a good start for the year
OK. Now is the 3rd month of year 2014 and this is the 1st blog entry for the year.
Birthday passed, New Year passed and even Chinese New Year passed by too. Time really flies, especially now I am in my forties. Huh, so aging is like that.
Work has been piling up. Not sure whether it is because of I need more time to complete the work due to the aging factor or because there is simply too much work to handle.
Health has not been good. Was sick with all the eating and drinking during the Chinese New Year, plus workload, plus rest has been shorten. I have also skipped my previous routine of exercising in the morning.
SIGH ...
I think I need to relook at my priorities again. Nope, I can't continue this sort of lifestyle like the past 2 months, I need to go back ... go back to 1 year ago, when I took care of my health.
So from today onwards, I am going to
1. pick up my daily morning walking routine
2. keep the habit of sleeping early and waking early
3. leave the office not later than 6.30pm
4. swim at least once a month
OK. Let's do it.
