二胡考级 I passed with merit
哈哈!我的二胡六级考试及格了!!!
这是我第一次参加二胡考级,想不到我还能顺利地过关,而且成绩还不错。我考到了"Merit". (LOL)
Thank you very much.
OK. That's my update for the moment. Now planning to study hard for my MCPD.

Back from Cambodia
I am back from Cambodia. Just went for 1 week trip to Phnom Penh and Siam Reap with my sister. We went there because our uncle was there working there and my aunt and cousin is visiting him @ the same time. Hmm... ok ok the real reason is because we got a $1 promotion from JetStar so we wheezee.... flew there.
It was enjoyable but tiring, very tiring. The weather is extremely hot and sunny and I got sunburn all over and I am now very very very tanned.
There is nothing much in Phnom Penh as it wasn't supposed to be a tourist area and safety level is low. We heard gunshot in early hours of the morning on our 1st night there and metal crashing on our 2nd night. But there are quite some nice places to take photos, such as their National Museum and Royal Palace.
Siam Reap is more enjoyable. Maybe because it is tourist place, the food and things they sell cater more for tourists and hence it is more enjoyable bah.
We visited temples such as AngKor Wat, AngKor Thom, PreRup, Roulus Group. We also went shopping at their Central Market and Old Market. Typical Singaporeans, we bought some souvenirs in these places.
Food-wise, Khmer food wasn't to my liking. The food contains a lot of MSG and we had to tell the restaurant not to add in MSG (Teh Bi Jzen in Khmer) when they cook our food. Good thing, there are Chinese food and Western food available otherwise I will have to go hungry during this trip.
Money-wise, I felt that even though Cambodia is not a developed country but the cost of touring there is expensive. Things are sold in US$ and 1 trip on a tuk tuk will cost you at least US$1.50 for a 5 min ride. Food are also sold in US$. Our meals would cost us about US$12-15 per meal. We are lucky that we managed to get a corporate rate for our hotel in Siam Reap and it cost us US$22 night otherwise, we will have to pay US$50 per night. In Phnom Penh, we managed to get a guest house (not a hotel hor) @ US$15 per night.
Sometimes, I am really amazed how the Cambodian managed their daily lives when the living expenditure is so high there. Maybe that's why they put a lot of MSG in their food, so there is no need to have other side dishes, they just need MSG and rice (which they have ample because there is a lot of paddy fields in Cambodia).
OK. That summed up my trip to Cambodia. I hope I can put up some pictures soon. Well, if I am more hardworking, I will do that.
Next update ... ho ho ho ... I also don't know when.. LOL.

Ah Por and Ah Gong + Wii - Shiok to play
Today we went to visit Ah Por and Ah Gong cos' their death anniversaries are coming soon.
Bought vegetarian bee hoon, dian xin, kueh and fruits for them to makan during the prayer. Gu Gu also made a Fa Gao herself. I think both of them enjoy the food, guts feelings only lah... But I really think they do.
Thereafter, we went to Gu Gu's house for gathering and to finish the prayer food (ha ha we are glutons). Ok lah, it was planned to go there for lunch, which we had at a coffee shop near her house. We had Teochew porridge with veges, meat and fish. Found that I had order too little, so went to another stall to order char siew and roasted pork.
Cousin just bought a Wii player set and we spend most of the time there playing the games. It was very fun, even Father joined in. I lost to him during the boxing match (just can't believe this).
There are a lot of games, we played those that are simple to learn one, such as bowling, table tennis, tennis, boxing and running. Hmm, I am quite amazed with the technology, it actually detect our motion and capture the movements in the games. So when you play bowling, you literally have to bowl, i.e. swing your arms and release the ahem button instead of the ball.
I think I got hooked on this. Am thinking of buying one for the family, then Father won't be addicted to the television (esp the Chinese programmes in SCV like the Zhong Tian Ping Dao), but then he will get hook to the Wii leh... Ai ya difficult difficult. Anyway, haven't buy yet, will see see look look and decide later.
OK, ciao for now. Am going to finish my Star Wars DVD and then sleep. Cos' tomorrow got to work ... sianz.
P/S: All Chinese words are in hanyu pinyin cos' I haven't setup the Chinese language in my new laptop yet. Hee hee ... I know I know... will set up asap. BTW, my new laptop is back. Hard disk error.... they changed a new hard disk. Hopefully, it last.

My NEW laptop crashed!!!
Cry .... sob ... sob!!!
The new ASUS laptop that I purchased 3 months ago crashed this week. Now falling back to my old laptop which I had given to my father while I try to restore the whole PC again. Lucky me, only got some data loss cos' most of my data is still on the old laptop.
Reason: Well ... I itchy hand lor, went to uninstall the Norton Internet Security since it has expired, so that I can download free firewall. Too bad, I made mistake trying to install an old version ZoneAlarm which is not compatible with Vista and it hangs ...
Think I will skip ZoneAlarm and try other firewall software instead. Now, I have to reinstall all the programs and re-discover all my favourites URLs.
Gosh... this is going to take some time. What to do??? Who ask me to itchy hand go and try out new things without backing up my data. Yeah ... the worst thing is that I DID NOT BACKUP my data and this is unforgivable because I am in the IT line and I am suppose to noe backup is impt.
So to all out there --- Please backup your data frequently. Be it a portable disk or CD or DVD, do backup.
OK, ciao .. am going to catch up on my beautiful sleep. Next week is KHCO Performance @ the Esplanade. Will update again (hee hee when I am free)

What is DBS doing?
I can't believe this. Being in a modernise Singapore and the fastest information highway, we still have banks doing maintenance work without putting the information on their website. Crap...
I made a payment via the Internet Banking and was reviewing the txn on my account. When my account did not get updated, I thought the txn didn't go through and re-submit again. Whao pian, again no txn for the payment was shown. Only when I log out of the DBS IB did I get the details that I had made a double payment.
So what to do? Immediately call DBS to cancel one of the transaction rite? Wrong, DBS wanted me to go to their branch to cancel the transaction personally at the branch. I told the Customer Service (CS) that when I did a check, there was no txn on my account and why is this so? The reason given is becos they are doing maintenance. What the heck their schedule maintenance is as follows lor:
Service Scheduled Maintenance Date Expected Downtime Remarks
iBanking 25 Apr 2008 0000hrs - 0400hrs System Maintenance
iBanking 4 May 2008 0000hrs - 0700hrs System Maintenance
DBS/POSB Websites - - -
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) - - -
Phone Banking - - -
D2Pay 4 May 2008 0000hrs - 0700hrs System Maintenance
InstaPay - - -
Source : http://www.dbs.com/sg/personal/ibanking/additionalinfo/scheduledmaintenance/
So did you see any maintenance that is supposed to be done today? No right? And yet DBS is doing it. I work in the IT line and in Web Service too, whao the surfers to my company website will sure complain like mad if we do maintenance without putting up information beforehand on the website.
I tried to reason with the CS and says I can give her the authority, etc, etc, and I got the txn number and account. In the end, she told me that this is the only way, otherwise I have to ask the payee to return me the money. This sucks ok, I am being penalised for your stupid system.
BTW hor, I tried to send feedback from the IB, and they have the message. "This website requires you to login". What the heck I had already login man... What does it mean??? DBS trying to say you customers got a lot of complain har, says my service no good rite??? OK lor, I make it difficult for you to complain.
NOW I had to call up the payee and tell them to return the $$$ to me!!!! DBS you really sucks... U sucks our $$$, now your service sucks. AND HOR, pls put your schedule maintenance prominently on the home page and not hide it somewhere that nobody bothers to click.

Chinese New Year ... Ang Bao ...
My management dropped a Chinese New Year Ang Bao to us. My division will be joining in the TOTO Ang Bao Draw Co. Ltd as of 1 April 2008.
After years of ding - dong here and there, got news, no news, got action no action ... finally they decided to drop the bomb shell today.
I am expecting retrenchment (aka 6 mths + 2 mths retrenchment benefits), but no they are keeping all the staff and transferring everybody to the new company.
There is always 2 sides to an event, the flowery and the numbered one. Well, let's see what will happen again in few months time. People have been saying it is better there than here, benefits are better, etc. But we won't know until everything is confirmed. Until now, only the transferring part is confirmed, the rest such as pay package, staff welfare and benefits, etc is still unknown.
Also hor, it may be the management way of saving the retrenchment cost ... by making life difficult for us so that we take the initiatives ourselves. Well ... I dont know, let see how life goes after a few months later.
Anyway, still want to keep myself happy since it is Chinese New Year.
(Shout) : Everybody out there ... 新年快乐、恭喜发财、身体健康、顺顺利利。

Open air car parks and their usage
The top level of my HDB carpark was not a popular place with drivers. Reason being it is a 5 to 6 storey climb to get to the car and no there is no lift in the carpark and it is open-air, no shelter. Unless ... well the drivers and their passengers need someplace that is quiet and nobody around or those who are trying to save $$$ on the coupons during Sun and Public Holidays.
Recently, I found out that our youngsters, being creative, have been making this carpark level useful.
1. Practice session / racing tracks for motorbikes
It will happen during the weekends. Vvrroom ... vvroomm.. the bikes will roar on that level and u will see bikes practicing for their practical exams or racing with one another. Until one day, some flat dwellers cannot tahan the noise or maybe the unconventional drivers who need the place to be sshhh .... and call the police. Well it is being quiet now ... I think they found some other places for their practical lessons. But they are really really very noisy during those days.
2. Kite flying
Observed this only this afternoon. Some kids were flying kites on the top level. There is no obstruction and the wind was windy today after the rain. What a good way to make use of this level. But the kids have to look out for traffic cos' there are still drivers going all the up the top level.
Funny, sometimes human will find unconventional way of making use of something or doing something. Especially kids. Maybe they are still young and have not being mentally guided to do things in some fixed manner. Maybe they are too young to understand the dangers ...
Maybe I am getting old and kiasu, kiasee ... (sign ..) age is getting on me ...

Finally, everything is over ...
Finally, everything is over. Christmas over, my birthday over, New Year over and the most impt things are KHCO and NPCO performances over. Yeah ... now I got time to rest till Chinese New Year (amid the 大扫除 up for the Chinese New Year).
I really need to rest. My health is giving me problems again. Was coughing for 2 weeks (ever since NPCO performance) non-stop even after seeing doctor. Think I have to wait till my health improve and my immume system is in proper order before the cough goes off. (cough cough ..)
Hee hee ... these 2 weeks got lot of MCs, stay at home and zzzz ....
No need to go KHCO practices for the moment (I applied leave liao ok, I didn't MIA or pong tang the practices, but whether it is approved or not is another matter altogether).
NPCO practices also no need to go so often at the moment cos' there is no performance yet.
SO ... I AM GOING TO REST AND SLEEP AND REST AND REST ...
Hopefully I can gain some weight ... I lost 3Kg leh .. sniff sniff..
现在等过年,大吃大喝的日子。不过,之前要大扫除,很辛苦!!!

Itz the new year again
Today is the 1st day of year 2008. In another 1 month and 7 days time, we will be celebrating the 1st day of the lunar new year.
Time files ... I have been blogging for 3 years now. Maybe it is time for me to make some changes to my blog. Maybe not. Yeap, let me find some time to think about it.
People also make resolutions during the new year which they hope to achieve by year end. I made some last year, but I didn't achieve them. Let me relook at these "wishes" and see whether they can be extended to this year. Ha ha ... in that way, I won't have to think of new ones. Lazy bum....
1. Improve on my website
I will keep this one. Well, I have to admit I am just plain bo-chap and lazy to do anything on this last year. So this year ... hmmm .... must do something.
2. Learn how to steam a pandan cake
Errr... ok lah, will temporary keep this lah. Since it shouldn't take much effort. I hope ...
3. Project MIS (a data warehousing project where users can perform queries on the database)
Can't keep. Itz my department decision that I will not be handling this project. Ok lor, good for me. Less work man.
4. Keep myself healthy by eating healthy food, take more rest and go to gym regularly.
Yes yes .... will definitely keep this cos' it is going to be my lifestyle.
5. 练好二胡,去考二胡八级考试。
Woah ... pian ... stress man. Should I or shouldn't I. Think I won't keep this cos' I don't think I have the capability to pass this exam. If I decided to take one (maybe @ 五级), then I will update it as bonus.
OK. This year I will have 3 resolutions. Less resolutions, less stress, less work and more time to relax for a bum like me .... HO HO HO.
And yes, I think I will also try to spend more time on money making such as monitoring my investments to make sure they earn profits and not making losses.
Good luck to me. Good health to me and my family. Everything that is good comes to me ... (Shouting loudly) HUAT AH ...
