Happy Birthday
Today is a peaceful and quiet day. 生日就应该要这样,安安静静,平平凡凡地过。Then the whole new year will also be quiet and normal. My philosophy :D
Da Jie chia me breakfast and lunch. She had bought me a Coach bag earlier as birthday present. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! MUACK MUACK. But I dont think I will use it often cos' itz too expensive.
Went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) for eye checkup (because of the side effect of the medicine I am taking for SLE or lupus, I need to go for yearly eye checks to ensure that my eyes are still in good condition to continue with the medicine). Took a long nap in the afternoon after coming back from TTSH. After dinner, was busying killing snails in my MapleStory world.
That is it. My birthday went smoothly and quietly. Still popping pills for my lupus.
Birthday wishes? Well here goes ....
1. Be healthy
2. Be happy
3. Everybody in the family happy, peaceful and healthy
4. Less work more pay
5. Hmmm ... keep smiling
Oh yeah ... getting wiser and wiser.
Afternote: Received a lot of blessing from friends in Facebook. THANK YOU for the wishes. Bow Bow ...

I've got myself a birthday present
A funnier title would be : I have finally pierce my ears ... ouch!!
Finally, thanks to Da Jie, I have muster enough courage to pierce my ears and started wearing earrings today. Treat it as a birthday gift to myself (coming on 30th Dec and hopefully I am wiser by another year ... ha ha).
The procedure was quite fast, we choose a pair of earrings (sapphire in 18k silver) that is for sensitive ears. The salesgirl make a marking on both ears and poke, the earrings went in. Then she taught me how to clean the ears for 1 month using the lotion which needs to be purchase. The lotion is to prevent infection on the ears and can be use to sterilise any earrings. Cool.
I need to wear the earrings (no taking out the earrings the salesgirl instructed) for a month. After 1 week, I need to go back to the store for a checkup in case there is infection. 1 month later, I will need to visit the store again for them to remove the earrings. In the meantime, I need to clean my pierced ears with the lotion twice a day in the morning and at night.
为了爱美,只好委屈一下吧。
Frankly speaking, it was actually painful and there is this uncomfortable numble nimble feeling that something is hanging on your earlobes. I think I need to get used to this feeling, because Da Jie says I look nice with the earrings.
讲了那么多,就让你们看看我的耳朵变成什么样。

Better say nice ok, it's my birthday present and today is Christmas, so everyone must be nice to everyone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
P/S: Will keep the birthday greetings for the actual day. Till then.

Chinese vs English
Ever since MM commented that he may have made a mistake in the bilingual policy in the education system in SG (he realised that not everyone can grasp more than 1 language properly), there are a lot of views and comments in the media regarding the teaching of Chinese in schools.
There are 2 camps of argument, the English-speaking families (let's call them "jia gang-tan" aka "eat potato") and the Chinese-speaking families (let's call them "jia bui" aka "eat rice"). I will not go into the details about their views, you can read them in the papers and forum. Very interesting and I do encourage you to read them.
What I am going to say here is my view on learning languages, any language. And why I am pissed off with MOE lowering the standard of Chinese in the schools today.
Learning (regardless of language or what not) requires interest. If you are interested in a subject, you tend to spend more time and effort in it. And because you spend time and effort you will improve and you will tend to like the subject more and go in-depth in your learning. This is a cycle and this is why it call learning.
However, in real life, we don't love all subjects, esp school subjects. We tend to like only certain subjects and sometimes hated some. (Come on, don't kid yourself, I don't believe anyone will love all subjects during your school days, if you are, well you are abnormal.) So what do you do when you are not interested in a subject but you still need the knowledge. Well, we grit our teeth and do whatever we can, spend lots of lots of effort and time to pick up the subjects that we don't like so that we can pass the exams. Right? Well I did that.
I came from a Jia Bui family and my English wasn't good. Somehow, I managed to pick up English properly. I can speak and write in English (ok I admit I do make grammar and spelling mistakes now and then, but all word processing software have tools to rectify that). So what makes the Jia gang-tan so special that concession has to made for them so that they can pick up Chinese? I really don't understand.
And why does MOE have to lower the standard of Chinese in schools (the standard is already very low now) so that Jia gang-tan children can do well for their exams? If the standard of Chinese can be lower, what about doing the same for English so that the Jia Bui children can also do well for their exams? There are students who don't do well in English but have outstanding results for Chinese and other subjects, why are these students being penalised and not the Jia gang-tan students. So unfair.
Well ... haiz ... I can only ... haiz (sign). Life is never fair.
===========================================================
Jia gang-tan: Chinese Language is very difficult. My son will have a problem getting into U because he will not be able to pass the exam.
Jia Bui: What is so difficult about Chinese? It is not difficult, English is harder. Need to know when to use present tense, when to use past tense, spell long words properly.
Jia gang-tan: It's difficult, even MM says the teaching method is wrong for 30 years. I hope MOE will lower the passing standard for Chinese. Better still, scrap away the Chinese from the 'O' level, then my son won't have problem getting into U.
Jia Bui: Whoa ... Chinese language standard in schools standard is already very low, still want to lower somemore? Now they can use hanyu pinyin to replace properly Chinese words during exams and you still want to lower it somemore? U even want MOE to scrap Chinese?
Jia gang-tan: Yeap. His English and other subjects is good just Chinese is not good. If MOE scrap this subject, then he sure can go U. We speak English, MOE sure sayang us and listen to us. All the elites comes from Jia gang-tan, MOE sure will do something to ease the lives of our children.
Jia Bui: If MOE really does that, they are very biased. Biased towards Jia gang-tan. My son English not good, to be fair MOE must also lower the standard of English so that my son can also go to U. His Chinese and other subjects also very good. Can or not? hah??? Can or not????

With memories - My faithful CASIO timekeeper
Finally, after 15 years of service, my faithful CASIO watch died. It didn't die of heart, I mean battery, failure. Its limbs, I mean straps, were broken and there is no way to stitch them back. Sign ... sad ...
Throughout the years, there are only 2 battery changes and it really lasted very very long. For those young kids who have never heard of this brand, it is the ancestor of G-Shock and Baby-G, the hot favourites watches of youngsters.
I am still very sad with the loss. My faithful watch had accompanied me throughout its 15 years, travelling overseas to countries such as Malaysia, India, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and China. Served as my alarm clock whenever I am overseas, my stop watch whenever I am exercising. Oh ... I really missed my watch.
Since the battery is still running, I will keep the watch minus the strap. Think I will need to get a new watch cos' my left wrist feels kind of naked without the watch. Sis, my birthday coming leh.....

Humpty Dumpty
I have been hearing a lot of complains, from both parties. I am not sure who shall I side with, or whether I can be neutral enough to judge who is right or who is wrong. Maybe there is no right or wrong, just different views and way of handling things.
I have my own views and ideas, but as human beings are emotional when they complained, I don't think both parties want to hear about them. Anyway, it is not my business, I am just a passerby who lends a ear to them. I can only console them and says "Hmm... ya ... ok, maybe lor".
Suddenly, a nursery rhyme comes to my mind: -
I will only be the Humpty Dumpty who sat on the wall and not take sides. Yes, I will just be that. Hopefully, I won't fall down and smash into bits and pieces.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,
All the king's horses,
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Couldn't put Humpty together again.

NDP 2009 Preview
我的第一次。Yes, my first time in watching National Day Parade (NDP) Preview as an audience live. 现场喔!
In the past 30+ years the only way I could watch NDP was through live broadcast on TV, this year I was lucky to have 2 tickets to the Preview on last Saturday (1 August 2009). Even though it is a preview, the show is really very very nice, in fact it is excellent. The participants and helpers were also very friendly.

The fun bag got lots of goodies and it is a nice bag.
Well, they say pictures say a thousand words.

The fireworks ... ahhhhh ....

Next Sunday is Singapore's National Day and the day the actual parade will be happening with full fireworks. I will be watching the parade in Ritz Carlton ... whopppee ...

Ai yo ... very busy very busy
I am very very busy ever since I came back from Perth. So many things to learn and complete, but I'm still dangling midway. The thingz are not completed and I think I am on the verge of collapsing. Sign...
Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ..... I want to scream to relief my stress arrrr........
OK now back to the thingz. I better make a note of the things that I need to complete.
1. Learn Flash and Silverlight for the Website revamp
2. Learn Joomla
3. Setup Virtual PC for testing
4. Clean up my old laptop for Father to use
5. Update my website on the Perth trip
6. Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra Website
7. Finish up my music theory homework
8. Practice my erhu
The completion of the above are not in sequence and all came at the same time. Now I wonder why I keep doing and doing but all are not completing. I think I will make a checklist and stare at the checklist ... to remind myself I need to complete the thingz ASAP. Haizzz...

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra 2009 ... The End
Itz over. The audience emotion and participation is very high. There are lots of cheering and screaming of the performers' names. Thank you all audience.
There are lots of effort behind a wonderful performance. Everybody had practice really hard during the past 3 weeks and some of us went to NPCO from Mon - Fri just to practice. It was really hard work, I nearly collapse from the tiredness. Luckily, I can still tahan until the performance is over. (OK I collapse on Monday but that is another issue)
The young ones also put in a lot of efforts and hard work, especially the committee members. Kudos to you all. Well done and you kids ROCKS!!! Alumni also contributed, thanks to Yong Shun, YuLing, Yang, Wenxi, YanPo, TingZheng and also myself (LOL)
可惜的是很多校友没有回来 support 我们。伤心叻!!!不然表演者会更多,观众会更更多。Pity pity.... 不过也好,今年我们认识很多客卿,也让在籍生有机会接触其他乐团的朋友。
It was a good performance, and a wonderful experience. I found that I always enjoy participating in NPCO performances, even though itz my dream that one day I can sit as an audience and watch the young ones perform. However, be it as a participant or as an audience, it is still an enjoyable process. And it sort of bond me and the young ones together (but they still don't noe my real name is not Shi Jie (师姐) and even guest players started calling me Shi Jie, weird right?). Never mind, it will always be an issue.

I still dream of ... being an audience one day. ;)

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra 2009 ... Coming Soon
Itz on ... the performance will be held on 24 May 2009 (Sunday) at 7.30pm in Singapore Conference Hall.
To those who are reading this blog, please come and support us. Ticket price is $12 and free seating.
Ok. That's the sales talk. Now is the actual work ... ^^
Had been very very busy with the practices these few weeks. I think itz tiring me out, am not feeling well now. Next week is another round of rehearsals for 3 days, and itz going to be "See you on stage on Sunday".
Hopefully my tiredness will wear out (instead of my energy wear out) and I will be in pink health for the performance.
Frankly speaking most of the pieces are not difficult, and I should be managing fine. Itz only 1 song (accompaniant to a solo piece) that is difficult because it is 7/8, 5/8 and 3/8 kind of beats. I hope I will be ok with this song cos' I cannot rely on WaWa (my super-duper good junior) as she is the soloist. SIGN .... OK .... I will buck up and be on my own.
Another week to go ... Preserve and press on ... for me and the NPCO young ones.

Nephew's first month
Yesterday was my nephew's first month celebration. I had 3 nephews now (all from my cousins, none from my siblings, sign...) and it seems that I don't have much luck with nieces ^_^.
We bought vouchers for the new baby, so that his parents can buy diapers and milk for him. Itz more practical than giving him gifts (ok we admitted that we are lazy to think for what gifts to give but giving vouchers are really more practical).
Went to buy a card to go with the voucher yesterday. I saw a card and immediately wanted to laugh out loud in the shop when I read the wordings on the card. Let me share with you.
The front goes like this: -
What is a baby boy?
~ Ten little fingers
~ Ten little toes
~ Two little earlobes
~ One little nose
~ One little tummy ....
Open up the card, there is a drawing of a baby looking into his diapers ...
~ And, yes, one of those!
We added wordings to the card to make it more R-rated. Here goes ...
Huh? What's that?
Nei !! .. 那个“一条的”loh ...
HA HA HA !!!!
Here is wishes for all babies especially our 3 nephews ...
Grow up healthy, smarty, hamsi (handsome) and happy.
Ciao ....

One Wakin Live in Singapore
Yes... I attended the concert with my mum and brother last Saturday. It was a full house event, the indoor stadium was packed from top to bottom. No wonder Unusual Productions like to organise his concert, 稳赚!!!
Super duper long concert ... lasted for 4 hours until 12am. I nearly dozed off at the end. Not because it is boring, it is just too long and overshot my sleeping time. My mum and bro also goggy goggy towards the end.
周华健 can really sing ... and sing for a long time. But he can't joke, most of his jokes are quite lame actually but never mind, we went there because of his songs.
There was this scenario which amuses me and makes me think that Singaporeans is quite courteous at times. Wakin was thanking his Singaporeans friends for inviting him and coming to support him. Firstly, he thanked Mrs Goh and the camera swing to show SM's wife waving, everyone was clapping. Then he thanked some friends which he says is very low profile and most of us won't know them. He started mentioning some names and sudden the name "Richard" came up and the camera swing to show Richard Yong of the NKF saga. Sudden the whole Indoor Stadium becomes quiet. Hmm ... the expression of RY's face was that of embarrassment but luckily nobody booed. Not sensing things are amiss, Wakin continues with his names list and the audience started clapping again. Shiok right, we can change our reaction so fast.
It is actually a nice concert, lots of songs and nice music by the violinist (the botak guy who always appear in concerts) and the saxophone player. The violinist and saxophone player are much stylo than Wakin.
Overall, it is a nice concert except that it is really too long. We were tired and hungry after the concert even though we were just sitting there, listening, clapping and singing. Too long ... really too long, next time please shorten the timing. :D

A conversation between my left brain and right brain
- Left Brain - LB
Right Brain - RB
LB: You are HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE and INCORRIGIBLE
RB: What??? Why are you scolding me? It's beginning of a new year and Chinese New Year is not over yet you know. You bring bad luck to me by scolding me leh!!!
LB: Serve you right!!! What day is it now?
RB: 1 Feb 2009 lor ... oohhh ... I know liao ... hee hee ... hmm mm ... you see, there is Chinese New Year, with all the cleaning and preparation to do, so I am very busy after the 1st paper, so it is logical that I have not started studying yet. In addition last Friday, I was given homework to do by some dumb consultants asking me to clarified my own role in an organisation. I can't help it...
LB: Excuses and excuses!!!
RB: No, they are valid reasons.
LB: So have you finished your homework????
RB: Yar, done at the moment. Waiting for Boss' review and see whether need to revise or not lor. I tell you har, very difficult to do, ask me to write down areas of responsibilities, tasks, activities and outcomes of all the above. Whao ... that's their job or the HR job or my boss job mah, ask me to write. I feel like writing only 3 words for all this - "I KIO SAI".
LB: I will BAN SAI for you to KIO. So are you done with the homework?
RB: Ok lah, no need to shout mah. Done liao lor...
LB: So what are you doing now?
RB: Blogging lor ...
LB: ^~^ (faints)
RB: Wait wait ... don't faint. I don't have the strength to carry you hor.
LB: When is your next paper?
RB: Ahem ... err .... 7 Feb 2009, next Saturday... 6 days if counting down ... ok ok I go back to study now. Bye Bye everyone. Wish me luck on Saturday ok?
LB: Bye your head.

。。(drive around Singapore )and 终于在 Ten Mile Junction 的苼松才买到。好险!!!
今晚我们就吃火锅。不用煮大鱼、大肉,方便得多了。往年,我们得煮很多很多佳肴,所以特别忙,今年应该简单多了。Just need to boil soup and put all the 料 inside.
好了,不再多说了,我的去厨房准备了。
祝大家:新年快乐,发大财,中 TOTO。

Welcome 2009
Itz the new year again. In the midst of everyone wishing and blessing each other for the new year, I think I will need to do some reflections myself.
The new year day was spent at home, relaxing and studying for my MCPD. Was thinking about my life when I was relaxing. 34 years has come and gone... and now a new year has come... what do I want to do now?
I have grown mature by 1 year. Did not complete any of my resolutions made last year, decided not to make any this year. I think I will just .. you noe ... just let things come itz way and work on it when it comes. Then I dont have to plan too much at the beginning of the year. If things work out, I will just update on this blog. If not, ha ha where is there an 'if not' when I dont have any plans. Yep ... I will just do this way.
Last year I have managed to pass my 二胡六级 exam. Dont intent to upgrade myself at the moment. Other than that, there is NO ACHIEVEMENTS, let's hope this year I have some.
All right then, let me wish myself for the new year:
BEST OF HEALTH in the new year
LESS WORK MORE PAY and
MORE RELAXING LIFESTYLE.
HAPPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. See you again during the Chinese New Year. Am now going back to my spring cleaning... Arghhh...
